WEATHER: Heavy fog to shut down SA’s transport operations

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northern, central and southern parts of the Northern Cape, as well as in places over the Central and Little Karoo Districts of the Western Cape

ADVISORIES:

Significantly reduced visibility due to fog resulting in difficulty in driving conditions in places over the southern parts of Gauteng, escarpment and Highveld of Mpumalanga, eastern parts of Limpopo, Overberg district of the Western Cape as well as in places over the interior of Kwa Zulu Natal.

Conditions and UVB forecast

Gauteng

Temperature: Morning fog patches in places in the south and east, otherwise partly cloudy and cold to cool

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Mpumalanga

Temperature: Cloudy with morning fog over the Highveld and the escarpment , becoming partly cloudy and cold to cool with morning drizzle along the northern escarpment.

Limpopo

Temperature: Cloudy with morning fog patches in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with morning drizzle along the escarpment.

North West

Temperature: Partly cloudy in the north-east, otherwise fine and cool.

Free State

Temperature: Fine and cold to cool.

Northern Cape

Temperature: Fine and cool to warm. It will be windy over the interior and the west in the afternoon.

Wind: – The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming north-westerly in the evening.

Western Cape

Temperature: Morning fog patches over the Overberg district in the morning, otherwise fine and cool to warm. It will be windy over the interior in the afternoon.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate northerly to north-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Fine and cool to warm.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly becoming north-easterly in the afternoon

The Eastern half: Fine and cool, but cold in the extreme north.

The Eastern half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly at first, otherwise moderate to fresh north-easterly

KwaZulu-Natal

Temperature: Partly cloudy at first with morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise fine and warm but cool in the south-west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate north-easterly, becoming fresh in places in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High.
