Weather warning: SA to experience severe THUNDERSTORMS resulting in localised damage to property

Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A. Yellow Level 1 Warning for Severe Thunderstorms resulting in localised damage to property and localised short-term disruption to municipal and other essential services is expected in places in the Amathole, OR Tambo, and Alfred Nzo District Municipalities, as well as the Enoch Mgijima, Intsika Yethu and Engcobo Local Municipalities in the Eastern Cape.

B. Yellow Level 2 Warning for Damaging Wind leading to localised disruption of small harbours and/or ports for a short period of time and difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas in the Western Cape during the morning, moderating by the afternoon.

C. Yellow Level 2 Warning for Damaging Wind resulting in localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes, is expected over the Karoo Hoogland Local Municipality in the Northern Cape, as well as the Central Karoo District Municipality and the Breede Valley Local Municipality in the Western Cape.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Beaufort West, Laingsburg, Prince Albert and Kannaland local municipalities in the Western Cape, DR Beyers Naude local municipality in the Eastern Cape, John Taolo Gaetsewe district municipality in the Northern Cape, as well as the western part of the North-West.

Gauteng:

Temperature: Hot in the north, otherwise fine and warm becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm but hot in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and hot.

Free State:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thundershowers in the west and along the Lesotho border.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Mostly cloudy in the west in the morning with mist in places, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated thundershowers in the east. It will be windy in the south.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh north-westerly to westerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: It will be cloudy and cool in the west with rain and showers from morning until mid-afternoon. Cloudy along the south coast at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, it will be cloudy and cool in the west with rain and showers from morning until mid-afternoon.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh westerly to north-westerly along the south coast, where it will become fresh south-westerly, otherwise fresh to strong north-westerly, reaching Gale Force along the south-west coast.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Partly cloudy and warm with isolated thundershowers in the east.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southwesterly.

The Eastern half – Partly cloudy and warm, becoming cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northeasterly.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm, but hot in places with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.
