First township luxury hotel: Khayelitsha couple to make history

A Cape Town couple has confirmed a historical date. The locally-raised duo Annette and Bulelani Skaap will open Mzansi’s first luxury hotel in the township of Khayelitsha on 5 December.

FIRST TOWN LUXURY HOTEL COMES TO KHAYELITSHA

Former flight attendant Annette Skaap and her leading businessman husband Bulelani “Ace” are putting the final touches ahead of the monumental day.

The couple will launch Mzansi’s very first luxury hotel in Khayelitsha on 5 December 2021. The Skaap’s will open The Spade Boutique Hotel and Spa, which is rated as four-star accommodation.

Ace’s proven business and entertainment track record includes Kwa-Ace Lounge, Kwa Ace Kitchen and Kwa-Ace Eparkin which have all become popular tourist attractions for local and international travellers.

“We are pleased to introduce our new business expansion with the development of our first luxury hotel, The Spade Boutique Hotel, and Spa,” Annette said via Business Insider.

“With this hotel, we wish to accommodate our guests, local and international, to experience the other side of Cape Town and more beyond the city. We wish for our guests to leave with an incredible South African experience that will stay with them forever.”

“This project has been in the making since 2018 but was derailed by the global pandemic, COVID-19, which has affected the global and business community,” Annette added.

CAPE TOWN’S VICTORIA JUNCTION HOTELS CLOSES

Cape Town’s iconic Protea Victoria Junction Hotel is the latest casualty of COVID-19’s impact on the local tourism sector.

Last year Cape Town said goodbye to one of its Hilton Hotels. The city is now losing another one of its hospitality stalwarts – The Victoria Junction Hotel.

The hotel, located in the city’s popular De Waterkant area, was managed by Marriott international which decided to hand the property back to its owners.
