Many of us know that tourism in South Africa has taken a hit with the international travel ban, but on the bright side, this means more discounts for those in Cape Town and those visiting this festive season!
It is of absolute importance to the Cape Town tourism sector to stay afloat this festive season and not collapse under the weight of COVID-19 and the international travel ban. With the use of discounts and deals regarding tourist attractions and accommodation in Cape Town, the hope is to keep the sector booming and to ultimately generate enough income.
Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, told SABC News that something had to be done in order to combat the effects of COVID-19.
“Absolutely tens of thousands of cancellations, hundreds of millions of rand if not billions, an estimate produced by our provincial government is that just in December, Cape Town will have lost about R250 million from cancelled bookings, so it has a huge impact on the local tourism economy. That is why we had to innovate so quickly to see what we can to help businesses through these difficulties,” he said.
With this strategy underway, there is hope that the tourism sector will keep kicking. Luckily, we get to enjoy the deals and discounts at the same time! So keep an eye out for deals for your favourite activities and accommodation in Cape Town and make use of them while they’re around.
