Watch as a tornado was spotted in Harrismith on Tuesday and caught on camera.

Marcus sent this amazing video to Storm Report of what seems to be a Tornado touching down in Harrismith.

Tornadoes are vertical funnels of rapidly spinning air.

Also known as twisters, tornadoes are born in thunderstorms and are often accompanied by hail. Giant, persistent thunderstorms called supercells spawn the most destructive tornadoes.

This comes days after a beautiful supercell was seen over Boshof Free State.

Earlier this month, a landspout twister was spotted in the Franklin District in KwaZulu-Natal.

Annette Botha, VoxWeather forecaster said it’s a Landspout twister – this is due to the amount of sand and dust that can be seen in the photo – thus, the rotation must have started from the ground and spun upwards to the cloud.

“Landspouts typically are short-lived and weaker than a tornado that forms from a supercell BUT can still cause extensive damage and loss of life.” Botha said.
