Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A.Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rain leading to localised flooding of susceptible formal/informal settlements and roads, low-lying areas and bridges, major roads affected but can be used, increased travel times, difficult driving conditions on dirt roads is expected over the escarpment and lowveld of both Mpumalanga and Limpopo as well as northern parts of Limpopo province.

B. Yellow Level 4 Warning for Severe Thunderstorms with strong damaging winds heavy rain leading to flooding of roads and settlements(formal and informal settlements and roads, low-lying areas and bridges, major roads affected but can be used, increased travel times, difficult driving conditions on dirt roads is expected along the coast, adjacent interior and the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Zf Mgcawu District municipality of the Northern Cape as well as the Laingsburg Local municipality of the Western Cape.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread along the escarpment and the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy and warm with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Cloudy to partly cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the west.

Free State:

Temperature: Cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the west.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy along the coast with morning fog, otherwise fine and warm to hot, but partly cloudy in the east with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: morning fog along the coast, where it will be partly cloudy at first, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming cloudy along the south-west coast towards the evening where it will be cool.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-easterly between Saldanha Bay and Plettenberg Bay in the morning, otherwise light to moderate westerly to north-westerly spreading to Plettenberg Bay by late afternoon while becoming fresh to strong between Still Bay and Cape Agulhas.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Cloudy with fog in places in the morning, otherwise fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north and east.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable in places in the morning, otherwise light to moderate easterly.

The Eastern half -Cloudy with fog in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered south of the escarpment. Strong winds are expected in the north.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the south in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh north-easterly

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and warm with widespread showers and thundershowers but scattered in the extreme west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly, becoming northeasterly from the south spreading to Kosi Bay by afternoon.
