South Africans have the luxury – those that can afford it – of dining at some of the world’s finest restaurants.
According to the World’s 50 Best Restaurant List (they also include 51-100), Cape Town-based Fyn is the 37th best restaurant in the world – and the best in Africa.
Fyn has a Japanese-inspired menu and sources its ingredients from local Cape Town farms.
The most expensive menu option at Fyn, the Dinner Menu Experience, costs R1 675 per person, excluding drinks and tip.
A second Cape Town restaurant, Le Colombe, ranked 56th and serves modern French-meets-Asian cuisine.
Its most expensive menu, the Chef’s menu and Vegetarian Chef’s Menu, will set you back R1 795 per person.
Finally, Paternoster-based restaurant Wolfgat also made the list at 90th. It dropped out of the top 50 and lost its 2021 crown as the top restaurant in Africa.
Wolfgat’s most expensive menu, the Seasonal Tasting Menu, will cost diners R1 050 each.
The best restaurant in the world is Geranium, located in Copenhagen, Denmark.
