To help shed some light on their new Traveller Declaration System which seems to have left a lot of travellers in confusion, SARS will be hosting an informative webinar today, 17 November.
The main purpose of the webinar is to help educate stakeholders and travellers about this new simple and modernised system developed for travellers to declare goods and currency before embarking on air travel to or from South Africa, reports Tourism Update.
The webinar will also allow SARS the chance to provide clarity on the traveller declaration process by giving travellers and necessary parties the relevant information and insight required to make it easy for them to comply with their tax and customs obligations.
Last month, the revenue service announced news of the new declaration system and lots of people panicked and were unsure of what it would mean. SARS then attempted to clear up some of the confusion by saying that the new system was being piloted to digitise the process of voluntarily declaring goods or cash upon entering or leaving South Africa.
The new project is part of a South African Traveller Management System (SATMS), which is designed to modernise customs procedures. More information, however, will be given at the webinar later today.
