Qatar Airways is back! The airline announced that flights from South Africa will resume on 13 January.
Following the global Omicron variant panic of late November 2021, airlines around the world had put flight bans into place – Qatar Airways being one of them. The airline had put flights to and from South Africa on ice until 31 December.
Travelnews reported that the airline announced it will start carrying passengers outbound from South Africa. These flights will be into its Doha hub, on 21 weekly flights from South Africa, starting 13 January 2022.
The airline will resume double-daily services out of Johannesburg, as well as a daily service from Cape Town and four weekly linked flights to Durban.
While there still may not be many destinations that South Africans can travel to currently, due to the entry restrictions placed on the region by a multitude of countries, South Africa remains open to visitors from other countries.
The easing of Qatar Airways’ flights is good news for SA’s tourism sector – which took a beating after mass cancellations due to November’s Omicron-related restrictions placed on the country.
