Patron racks up R908 130 bill, tips waiter R90 810 at SA restaurant

An unknown customer shocked Mzansi at a restaurant when his bill shot up to nearly a million rand (R908 130). The bill also revealed that the customer spent the majority of his money on alcohol in one night.

The R908 130 receipt also shows that the unknown customer tipped the waiter R90 810, which is nearly a R100 000. 

The shocking R998 949 bill was discovered on Facebook and was first shared by an Instagram user @4g_juniors, who condemns the level of alcohol the patron bought in one night. 

He posted: “I don’t drink, and if it was up to me, I would wish everyone did not drink. But whom am I to judge.”

So how does a bill at a restaurant even get to R998 949? Well, let’s break down what was supposedly ordered:

  • Still water R621
  • Hennessy Lumi Bottle R10 500
  • Red Bull R585
  • Jagermeister R480
  • Moet Brut R1950
  • Hennessy XO Bottle R9000

ALCOHOL USAGE IN SOUTH AFRICA

CapeTalk revealed in October 2022 that South Africa is ranked third in the world for alcohol consumption. 

The publication added at the time that the Liquor Amendment Bill was going back into Parliament to figure out the potential benefits of reforming the drinking behaviors of South Africans.

Onesisa Mtwa, innovation director at DGMT told the publication: 

“We are presently third in the world in terms of alcohol consumption per capita. Considering that less than half of our population consumes alcohol, the part of the population that does drink heavily.”

The Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance in South Africa (SAAPA SA) revealed in January that it was eagerly waiting for the government to reveal its action plan to reduce alcohol harm in South Africa in 2023, according to IOL.
