According to a survey of citizens from 146 nations by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network published in March 2023, the happiest country in the world is Finland. The 2023 survey, based largely on three-year average figures taken from 2020 to 2022, looked at factors such as quality and quantity of life, social support and personal liberty to allocate a rating for each nation, ranging between 0 and 10. Finland’s final score was 7.804, putting its populace’s satisfaction level just ahead of Denmark (7.586) and Iceland (7.530).
This is the sixth year in a row that Finland has earned the No.1 spot in the World Happiness Report.
In the 2023 iteration, the top 10 were as follows:
1. Finland (7.804)
2. Denmark (7.586)
3. Iceland (7.530)
4. Israel (7.473)
5. Netherlands (7.403)
6. Sweden (7.395)
7. Norway (7.315)
8. Switzerland (7.240)
9. Luxembourg (7.228)
10. New Zealand (7.123)
At the other end of the scale was Afghanistan, with a score of just 1.859.
