New Zealand now accessible to all

The isalnd nation of New Zealand has announced full removal of Covid-19 entry regulations for international arrivals. As of 12 September 2022, travellers no longer need to show proof of vaccination, a negative pre-departure Covid-19 test or need to get tested on arrival,

According to travel news, the country’s mask mandate has also been removed.

New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, said recently that it had been a staged and cautious process on their part since February as they, alongside the rest of the world, continued to manage a very live global pandemic, while still keeping people safe.

Since February, the country had had plans to ease some of the border controls. Ardern had revealed a five-step plan for the phased reopening of the country’s borders, signalling an end to nearly two years of the strict border rules that had separated families and shut out the rest of the world.

In October last year, Prime Minister Ardern had said that New Zealand would begin to move away from a zero-COVID strategy toward living with the virus. Ardern said the anguish of quarantine had been challenging for locals and visitors alike.

What happens if you do test positive upon arrival?

The country has stated that the only two remaining restrictions in place are for those who test positive for the virus upon entry to the country. These people will need to isolate for seven days. The other restriction that remains is that visitors must wear masks when visiting health-care facilities like hospitals and homes for the elderly.
