The City of Cape Town’s popular family street dining and trading experience is coming to Mitchells Plain this June.
Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis will be bringing the City’s family street dining and trading experience to Mitchells Plain on Youth Day (16 June) this year. The event is aimed at benefitting local business and trading, as well as providing residents with an open air dining experience.
The day will reportedly be filled with family fun, including kids activities, local cuisine, arts and crafts and local entertainment.
Mayor Hill-Lewis said that the event is an opportunity for residents to support local business and enjoy what’s on offer within their communities.
“Many restaurants, vendors and traders are still struggling to recover from the impact of the pandemic and the City is committed to doing what it can to ensure they get through this. At the same time we are giving our residents, who have been stellar during lockdown periods when going out was prohibited, an opportunity to support local business and enjoy what’s on offer within their communities. We invite residents to come out and support this.” he said
The City of Cape Town said that some of the objectives of the event include providing businesses and vendors with the opportunity to maximise their income in a time of capacity restrictions, improving the urban environment in key economic precincts and encouraging more pedestrian thoroughfare in support of businesses and avoiding significant impact on traffic flow.
The street event will take place on AZ Berman between Kerrem and Trampoline/Charloie Streets from 12:00 to 20:00 on 16 June. Certain streets will be closed to vehicles and opened only for pedestrians. The event, including local entertainment and kiddies play area, will be free of charge for all.
