‘Hoe lyk it’: ‘Lucifer’ star Lesley Brandt teaches US fans Afrikaans

Lucifer star Lesley-Ann Brandt had her South African fans super impressed after dropping some Afrikaans slang on her Instagram.

South African-born US-based star Lesley-Ann Brandt is flying the country’s flag pretty high and we love to see it. The actress has made quite the name for herself and starred in hit series Lucifer playing the role of Mazikeen. She recently headed to her 3.3 million follower Instagram page to share some clips of herself explaining South African slang words.

The posts received thousands of likes from South Africans who love how she is embracing her heritage.

Everyone loved Lesley-Ann Brandt in US urban fantasy TV series Lucifer.

The South African born actress played the role of Mazikeen, Lucifer’s trusted right-hand woman.

While she may have scored big in Hollywood, Lesley Ann is staying close to her roots and even shared clips of herself explaining some Afrikaans slang words to her 3.3 million followers.

In the clips, she explains the meanings of words and phrases such as ‘giemba’, ‘vrat’ and ‘hoe lyk it’.

Mzansi absolutely loves it

The posts received a lot of love from Lesley-Ann’s South African based fans.

Many of them praised her for keeping her Afrikaans accent despite acting on international shows and using international dialect so often.

“Thank you for sharing these! It’s been really cool to learn a little bit about other cultures in this way. Also, I find it really endearing how your accent changes to match the slang you’re currently teaching about,” said one follower.

“Reminds us of how unique we are as a nation. The amount of words from different languages and cultures that make up our everyday dialect. Gonna blom here and wait for part 2,” said another.
