The new campaign is a localisation of the the global Live again! campaign introduced by SA Tourism last month. According to Tourism Update, this new campaign will focus on giving North European travellers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden the opportunity to experience South Africa through the eyes of locals who use their ‘lekker local tips’ to highlight the beautiful parts of the country.

Themba Khumalo, SA Tourism Acting CEO, says that ‘first-hand experience’ is what is appreciated most by consumers.

“The over-arching insight for this campaign is that we know that our Dutch, Belgian and Swedish consumers appreciate exploring a destination like a local would. They appreciate travel-related information from credible sources such as frequent travellers and people with first-hand experience and those with ‘inside info’.” he said.

The term ‘lekker’, which means ‘nice’ or ‘awesome’, was chosen to resonate with the Dutch, Flemish and Swedish speaking markets while creating familiarity around a colloquial South African word.

Elements of the campaign includes a 45-second launch video inviting travellers to visit South Africa, while highlighting bits and pieces of the tips that have been collected. Check out the video below:

There are also ten individual tip videos showcasing a variety of experiences from local South African tippers. Check out the lekker local tips below:
