Japan regulations: Good news ahead for travellers

Japan ditches regulations

The country of Japan is finally ready to remove all of the COVID-19 border regulations which have been in place since the start of the pandemic.

As per Travel News, a notice posted by the Japan National Tourism Organisation claims that as of 8 May 2023, all border rules and regulations which were in place to prevent the spread of the virus will be lifted.

These changes mean that travellers entering Japan will no longer have to provide a valid vaccination certificate or a negative test result.

An end to strict travel regs

Up until last year October, travellers wishing to visit the island nation had to first book an approved packaged tour with tour companies in order to enter the country.

There had also been a daily cap on the number of visitor arrivals to Japan at 20 000 per day. This number had to include Japanese nationals as well as returning foreign residents.

Then, in October 2023, the daily cap was scrapped and travellers were once again welcomed into Japan with no more mandatory quarantine on arrival. Unvaccinated travellers were, however, still required to show negative PCR tests obtained within the 72 hours before arrival.
