Prague: Dubbed the most ‘cultured’ city in Europe, here’s why

A new study has found that Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is the most “cultured” city in Europe. The study looked at how many museums, theatres, landmarks and cultural tours each major European city had per 100 000 permanent residents. This might come as a surprise to tourists given that the continent is the home of major cultural attractions like the Vatican, the London Globe and the Louvre! However, it turns out that the cultural capital of Europe is not Rome, London or Paris! It turns out that the cultural centre of Europe is Prague.

PRAGUE MOST CULTURED CITY IN EUROPE

Home to significant cultural landmarks like the Prague Castle, the funicular on Petřín Hill, the Dancing House, the so-called Golden City has 14.46 landmarks for every 100 000 residents! It has more monuments than any other European city, and the most theatres (1.89 theatres per every 100 000 residents). That is 28.6% more than the number of theatres in London (where there are only 1.47 theatres per 100 000 residents). There are 2.75 cultural tours on offer per 100 000 residents in the city.

It’s no surprise then that this is a popular destination for holidaymakers, with pre-pandemic figures claiming over 8 million tourists arrived in this beautiful cultured city per year! Most tourists stayed for about three days but with the staggering number of cultural sights and tour opportunities perhaps that would not be enough!
