Hong Kong’s ‘Hello Hong Kong’ tourism campaign will see the city give away 500 000 free flights to bring in much-needed visitors.
In a bid to bring in much-needed tourism to the city, Hong Kong leader, John Lee, announced a free flight ticket giveaway at the launch of their ‘Hello Hong Kong’ campaign earlier this month on Thursday, 2 February 2023.
According to reports, Lee promised “no isolation, no quarantine and no restrictions” during the his speech to business and tourism heavyweights at the launch, adding that 500 000 free air tickets will be handed out for visitors from around the world to experience the city’s “hustle and bustle”.

At the briefing, Fred Lam, Chief Executive Officer of the city’s Airport Authority revealed that the tickets will be distributed through Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., the city’s budget carrier – HK Express, as well as Hong Kong Airlines International Holdings Ltd.
The flight giveaway is said to begin at the start of March 2023 and will last six months. Lee also said that there would be different ways to win tickets, such as a lottery system and two-for-one purchases.
In other flight news, Hong Kong’s flag carrier, Cathay Pacific Airlines, has also just announced that it will be resuming services between Hong Kong and Johannesburg this year.
This comes after the airline removed all its flights from South Africa during peak COVID-19 November 2020. Now, more than two years later, Cathay Pacific is ready to fly high again come August 2023.
Starting 2 August 2023, the airline will run three non-stop weekly flights between South Africa and the city, on an Airbus A350-900, configured in a three cabin-class layout with 280 seats, comprising 38 in business class, 28 in premium economy and 214 in economy class.
