Face masks ‘no longer mandatory’ on KLM flights

After international mask guidelines were adjusted by the European Aviation Authority (EASA) last week, KLM Airlines announced that come 21 May, face masks will no longer be mandatory on board aircrafts to the Netherlands and at Dutch airports.

The airline does stipulate that, should the country of destination still require the use of face masks on board, passengers should comply.

Vaccinated South Africans are now also allowed to enter the Netherlands with no quarantine restrictions or test requirements. Provided that they comply with certain regulations. These are:

  • Travellers must show proof of vaccination, subject to visa requirements.
  • All travellers must complete a Vaccine Declaration COVID-19 form before departure.

According to Travel News, unvaccinated travellers must still comply with the EU entry ban, which stipulates that unvaccinated travellers only enter the Netherlands if they fall under one of the exemption categories, subject to visa requirements. A ‘Health Declaration’ is also still required.

It is, of course, still mandatory for travellers to wear masks in the buildings of  South African airports.

Increased flights from between Amsterdam and Cape Town

KLM airlines also recently increased its flight schedule between Amsterdam and Cape Town to six flights per week, with daily flights starting from 11 July 2022. This comes after a demand for more flights along this route from travellers.

The increased flight services will depart Cape Town at 23:15 and arrive in Amsterdam at 10:45 the next day. Flights will then depart Amsterdam at 10:10 and arrive in Cape Town at 21:25. These KLM flights will run everyday excluding Mondays.
