Talk about a curious cat! One pet feline tried to sneak his way through TSA in some luggage recently, but not before he was found by airport officials.
A feline traveller tried to make his way through John F Kennedy International Airport last week, by stowing away inside a traveller’s luggage. The ginger tabby cat named Smells did not belong to the particular traveller, but had managed to snuggle himself into the person’s suitcase before it was zipped up.
Once the luggage had reached the X-ray machine at the airport, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) spotted a tuft of orange fur sticking out of the suitcase’s zippers, reports Travel News.
TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said that Smells the cat did not belong to the traveller, known just as Alix P.
“On the bright side, the cat’s out of the bag and safely back home,” Farbstein quipped.
Smells’ real owner claimed that he must have crawled into their houseguest’s bag while she was not around, as she didn’t even realise Smells was MIA until an officer called to ask if she wanted to press charges against Alix.
“He wanted to know if there was any reason he was trying to steal my cat and go to Florida,” the owner told The New York Post. “Our cats really like to check out bags and boxes and apparently one of them climbed into his suitcase. It was just an accident.”
“I was worried he’d be freaked out but he wasn’t even meowing on the way back. I went to give him some extra treats and he acted like nothing had happened.” the owner said.
