Comair provides alternative flights for pax

One week after news broke that the South African carrier, Comair would be grounding all flights, customers may take comfort in knowing that the airline has made some arrangements for affected passengers.

According to Travel News, the carrier has announced an agreement with Airlink to accommodate affected customers holding a British Airways (BA Comair) flight ticket for travel between 3 June to 12 June 2022.

BA Comair customers hit by the suspension of the flight services now have the option of rebooking for cancelled BA flights with Airlink at no additional cost. This is, of course, subject to availability.

British Airways (long-haul) trade support has also reportedly made arrangements to rebook passengers on to SAA (meaning passengers needing to connect on to British Airways long-haul services and not standalone tickets). Check here for flight cancellations.

Flight capacity a new issue

Flight tickets onboard the rest of South Africa’s local airlines are apparently selling out faster than before, with travellers now struggling to find affordable flights, reports Business Insider.

Comair, both Kulula.com and British Airways, accounted for around 40% of South Africa’s domestic flight capacity. The abrupt suspension has therefore left passengers battling to find other flights, much like during the similar capacity issues experienced earlier this year, when the carrier was suspended by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) due to safety and security risks.
