After a highly-anticipated return to Mzansi – which even calls for a boycott –  Burna Boy took to the stage at the DStv Delicious Festival to an overwhelmingly positive response.

And not only were concert-goers enjoying the Nigerian act, but so were tweeps too!

Burna Boy’s performance marked the first time in SA since his 2019 Twitter rant about the country and threats to harm former friend AKA.

BURNA BOY ROCKS DTSV DELICIOUS FESTIVAL

Joining the likes of international acts like Baby Face and Angie Stone and local ones like DJ Fresh, DJ Zinhle, and DBN Gogo, Burna Boy rocked out to a 100 000 sold-out crowd.

The star-studded festival took place at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand, Johannesburg

In clips circulating on social media, the crowd is seen going wild at the Grammy-winning artist’s performance – seemingly forgetting the 2019 controversy and calls for him to “never step foot in Mzansi again”

Burna Boy performed hits from his new album Love Damini. He also revisited classics from previous years including his remixes on Master KG’s Jerusalema and Sponono with Kabza De Small.

And unexpectedly, Burna also performed his hit All Eyez On Me with former friend AKA.

Following several xenophobic attacks in 2019, Burna elicited anger from South Africans in a Twitter rant.

In it, he encouraged black foreigners living in SA to “defend and protect themselves” against SA attackers. He also warned rapper AKA to “beef up security”, in a threatening tweet that has since been deleted.

Burna Boy has never reconciled with AKA, despite the latter offering an olive branch.

WHAT AKA AND TWEEPS HAD TO SAY

On Twitter, both the DStv Delicious Festival and Burna Boy trended following his performance.

Here’s what tweeps had to say:

@Shawnifee: “Burna Boy headlined a show with over 100k people in attendance, in South Africa. This man is one of the biggest artists in the world right now!”

@AdvoBarryRoux: “He came, he saw, he Conquered. DSTV Delicious was too small for Burna Boy. Burna Boy is whoever he thinks he is”

@Nthaby2020: “Burna Boy must just do his own concert in SA, maybe 3 cities”

@ImohUmoren: “Burna Boy single-handedly repairing the Nigeria-SA relationship. Clear of our foreign ministry I’m afraid”

AKA also seemingly referenced Burna Boy’s performance, retweeting a tweet from a fan who called both rappers the “goats” of Africa.
