KZN North Coast: Beautiful beaches you HAVE to visit

The KwaZulu-Natal North Coast is beach-goers heaven, given its array of beautiful and balmy beaches and coastal towns. If you’re planning a beach trip, here are a few beaches on the KZN North Coast you don’t want to miss.

Willard Beach

Why you should visit: One of South Africa’s many beautiful Blue Flag beaches, Willard Beach in Ballito is one of the most popular beaches along the North Coast. The beach features excellent amenities, four surfing spots and many gorgeous tidal pools to take a dip in. The beach also hosts the annual Ballito Pro surfing competition, which is a huge draw for tourists and locals alike.

Salt Rock Beach, North Coast

Why you should visit: Located in the town of the same name, Salt Rock Beach offers white sands, the bluest of blue waters and swaying palm trees. What more could you ask for in a beach? Swim, surf, stand-up paddleboard or body-board, the choices for water-based activities are endless.

How to get there: Find the beach on 2 Ocean Drive, Salt Rock, Dolphin Coast.

Thompson’s Bay Beach

Why you should visit: Situated just north of Ballito and near Shakas Rock, Thompson’s Bay Beach is a popular, sheltered beach – perfect for swimming. The beach is cosily nestled within a sheltered cove and offers lots of protection on windy days. The best feature, however, is the huge tidal pool which is great for swimming (when conditions are good), snorkelling and exploring.
