Why not skip that Home Affairs queue? You can get your Passport and Smart ID’s at these banks in South Africa…
The Department of Home Affairs has come up with various measures to try and reduce long queues at its branches throughout the country. It is no secret that the department has partnered with banks to offer e-Home Affairs services. However, not everyone is aware of which facilities they can visit to get their Smart ID cards and passport.
In May, Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi announced that they are committed to reducing the long queues at their branches and they are consulting with five shopping malls so people can get their Smart IDs and passports there.
One of the immediate relief measure that Home Affairs is implementing is a new online booking system called BABS (Branch Appointment Booking System). This system is currently being piloted in 24 of the department’s busiest offices, reportedly.
The application process starts online, then you can continue the process at your nearest bank. Here’s where you can apply:

When he delivered his budget speech for the 2022/23 financial year in May, Motsoaledi said as an immediate relief measure, they have been engaging several malls in the country.
“Operating Home Affairs offices at malls will obviate the problem of queuing in the sun or rain.
“We shall start with Menlyn mall in Pretoria, Cresta mall and Southgate mall in Johannesburg, the Pavillion in eThekwini and Tygervalley mall in Cape Town,” Motsoaledi said.
