Abu Dhabi International Airport to open new terminal

Abu Dhabi International Airport will soon be opening up a new terminal, said to be one of the largest airport terminals in the world.

Abu Dhabi Airport’s Midfield Terminal

Travellers entering and departing Abu Dhabi can now look forward to a new terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport, set to open in November 2023.

According to Travel News, Midfield Terminal, which will be known as Terminal A, will be able to accommodate around 45 million passengers per year, process 11 000 travellers per hour and operate 79 aircraft at any one time.

The terminal also covers 742 000 sqm, one of the largest airport terminals in the world, and is expected to greatly increase the airport’s passenger and cargo capacity.

Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, said that the new terminal would do great things for the Emirate’s sustainable economic development.

“As Abu Dhabi’s new gateway to the world, Terminal A is an embodiment of Abu Dhabi Airports’ commitment to support the emirate’s sustainable economic development,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad said.

It’s also reported that several airlines including Etihad Airways, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and Air Arabia Abu Dhabi will move into the new terminal.

Abu Dhabi makes moves towards more tourism

In other news from Abu Dhabi, the Emirate’s Department of Culture and Tourism recently announced that the government taxes paid by hotels and tourists would be reduced to support growth in the hospitality and tourism sector, starting 1 September.

This fee reduction means a pruning of:

• a tourism fee issued to customers, which will drop from 6% to 4% of the total value of the customer’s hotel invoice,
• the removal of a municipality fee of Dh15 (R79) per room per night,
• a 6% tourism fee and a 4% municipal fee applying to hotel restaurants.
